Complete digital mapping of Ascheberg
The municipality of the German city of Ascheberg approached us with a request for surveying that wonderfully demonstrates the wide-ranging applicability of modern surveying techniques. On the one hand the municipality wanted to map the exact location of lightbulbs in streetlamps so that they may calculate the level of lighting in the area. On the other hand, they were looking to create a complete tree cadastre. They required estimates of the volume of the tree crown and through identifying the species of the trees, they used it to calculate the spread of the given tree’s roots.
The first steps to an integrated 3D city model
While these surveying requests are solutions to very specific problems, the beauty of using laser scanning to solve such problems is that any such solution can become the starting point for establishing what could eventually become a 3D city model. Thus, highlighting the practicality of our surveying services.
electric distribution network surveying
gas distribution network surveying
public road network surveying
water pipe network surveying
Easily expandable GIS systems
As you can see from this request, the decision makers at the municipality of Ascheberg were very forward looking in their approach. They recognized the long term benefit of creating digital inventories, which given their flexibility and ease of updating, can be applicable in very special cases such as creating an inventory of the trees in the care of the municipality and can later be expaned for general applications.
